(no subject)

My faith in my state and in my country has been set back today more severely than ever before in my life.

Bush isn't even the biggest part of it; while I'm not thrilled about his getting back in office, I really don't think he's Armageddon personified. He may make this country worse, and I voted for Kerry expressly because that's what I'm afraid of, but he's not going to outright ruin us. He's an idiot and a warmonger, but he's just one man.

But the anti-gay marriage laws. Every single one of them passed.

To put it another way, the voting majority of eleven states, including my own, are ignorant, bigoted bastards.

I just can't believe it. It makes me absolutely sick with rage; I'm one of those people who always tries to help and defend their friends, and I have friends who are gay. And with this, I'm forced to watch them be persecuted and I can't protect them at all, because now it's not just legal, it's the law.

I'm going to find some way to fight this. There has to be something I can do. I don't know what, and I don't know how or when, but there absolutely HAS to be something.

Cuddle party in comments.

I don't think it will. While we may be outnumbered when it comes to voting, those of us for gay rights can be goddamn LOUD when we want to be heard--and we'll have to be now. And while the conservatives may disagree, I'm convinced we have right on our side; who you sleep with is your business, and you shouldn't be deprived any rights just because there are people who don't approve of your choice.

Things that you can do? Write to the guys you actually do get to vote for: your Congressmen. You're not limited to making your voice heard only once a year. And remember that we're all American because we're allowed to have different views and opinions.

I intend to do whatever it takes.

The First Amendment not only covers freedom of speech, but also freedom of religion. As long as at least one religion recognizes same-sex marriage, and given a literal reading of the First Amendment, all of those laws are unconstitutional.

Now there's an interesting idea. Except for the fact that the polygamy ban was (and continues to be) upheld despite some religious people's desires.

Not at all. Your response to it was definately of above-average calibre, however.

*snerk*

What, do you go around randomly testing people to see if they flame you?

That's not unusual, is it? I mean, this is the wonderful candyland known as the Internet.
